1. General information
The presentation of ancient Greek thought made in the subject History of Ancient Philosophy I is continued. The fundamental problems of Plato's and Aristotle's thought will be studied through the reading of selected texts. It is intended to deepen the objective set out in the Guide of the subject History of Ancient Philosophy I, namely: the acquisition of a certain reading competence of the texts of ancient Greek thought.
2. Learning results
Knowledge of the intellectual, social and technical circumstances in which classical philosophical reflection develops.
Identification of the political, ethical and scientific features of classical philosophical discourse.
Ability to apply this knowledge to current debates.
3. Syllabus
1.Preliminaries: writing and poetic genres
2. Plato: the "form" of dialogue and the question of eîdos
3. Aristotle: fundamental concepts and reading problems
4. Academic activities
The subject continues the argumentative thread built in the subject History of Ancient Philosophy I. The fundamental texts will be incorporated to the Moodle platform. They will be presented and commented during the classes.
Activities:
Presentation of the contents of the program.
Reading and commentary of texts.
Assessment tests.
5. Assessment system
First call
Global assessment test (to be held on the date officially set by the Faculty).
The test will consist of a final exam, whose grade will account for 100% of the subject´s final grade. In this exam, a topic related to the contents of the subject will be developed by in writing. In order to pass the test, students need to have a thorough knowledge of the fundamental texts read and commented on during the classes, as well as the recommended studies (cf. Complementary bibliography).
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
The quality of the structure of the development of the topic, the pertinence of the contents and its argumentative rigor will be taken into account, as well as the clarity, conciseness and precision of expression.
Second call
Global assessment test (to be held on the date officially set by the Faculty).
Type of test and evaluation criteria: Same as in the first call.
